Arc-Flash is the thermal pulse effect of an Arc-Fault and is protected against with Fire Retardant Clothing (FRC). FRC is selected with a corresponding calorie level which should be greater to the available heat-flux should an arc-fault occur. FRC does not protect against the dynamic or thermoacoustic-wave effect also caused by the arc.
