TESTING – MOISTURE

The Hawk IR C-Range of IR Sightglasses are manufactured from CLIRVU™, a broadband, Arc-Resistant material that is unaffected by moisture.

Moisture Testing

Independent moisture testing to third party standards have been successfully performed, proving the CLIRVU™ optic material suitable for all environmental duties.

UL50/NEMA

The UL50 type testing is a harmonized, third part test that equates to the North American NEMA standard quoted by electrical equipment manufacturers. These tests are not “Self Certification” as claimed by some disreputable manufacturers. It is essential that you install a correctly tested and certified component that matches the environmental classification of your host equipment.

For example. If a product is classified NEMA/UL50 Type 1 then it cannot be installed into ANY outdoor equipment as the outdoor equipment rating will be reduced. Insist that your supplier provide a third party test certificate confirming the UL50/NEMA testing prior to any installation.

The Hawk IR Range have the following options;

C-Range       -        UL50/NEMA Type 3/12 (outdoor or indoor)
M-Range       -        UL50/NEMA Type 1 (indoor)

Ingress Protection (IP) to EN60529

EN60529 is a European Ingress Protection (IP) environmental test standard, it is NOT equivalent to North American NEMA/UL50 Type testing and is in fact less stringent. EN60529 must be performed and matched to the host equipment “IP Rating”.

It is important to note that the two digit numerical value shown is not in fact a “number” rather a code denoting the dirt and moisture ingress withstand capability of the equipment.

For example. A product holding the code IP65 is not superior to a product holding the code IP56 as the two digits represent different levels of certification. The table below shows the IP coding.

IP

The Hawk IR Range have the following options;

C-Range       -        IP65 Open and Closed (outdoor or indoor)
M-Range       -        IP2X Open and IP65 Closed (indoor)

The Hawk IR Sightglass and port range must be selected to match or exceed the IP Rating (European) and UL50/NEMA (North American) of the destination equipment.
